  • i-DSI engine redefines performance & fuel-efficiency benchmarks
  • Unique CVT system sets new standards for automatic transmissions
  • Other first-time features like Electrical Power Steering; advanced NVH & safety control measures; etc. provide enhanced value to customers
  • New car priced aggressively to reach out to a larger target audience

The new City’s 4.9m turning radius is similar to that of some B-segment cars. Moreover, its Electric Power Steering (EPS) and higher torque at low speeds allows easy maneuverability, making it ideal for congested driving conditions.

The front suspension design imparts superior stability to the car during cornering. Its unique friction reducing mechanism through a lateral-force-canceling spring enables greater strength and improved handling. Further, the special gas charged dampers help in making the ride extra smooth. The new H-shaped torsion beam rear suspension not only improves rear wheel-ground contact, but its oblique-angled trailing arm optimizes side force steer, making it most equipped to handle the Indian road’s bumps and potholes.

Its A/C is the best in its class most suited for the Indian tropical climate. Its three layers of paint provide for long lasting newness and protect the car from the harsh sunlight.
The all-new Honda City comes with a sleek, bold and aerodynamic exterior and plush interiors, lending the car a contemporary and futuristic look.

The V-shaped front grill with chrome garnish exudes sophistication and merges a new look with the classic design of a sedan. The front chin spoiler, along with a unique crease running across the hood, the grill and down through the bumper further enhances aerodynamics as well as the aesthetics. A new-age Side Rear View Mirror (SRVM) Design adds to greater aerodynamics plus offers minimal wind noise with brilliant rear visibility. The three-dimensional lens headlights offer the best distribution of light. The New City also has a novel roof mounted antenna made of flexible material, which can be unscrewed when required.

The cylinder shaped rear combination tail-lights highlight the City’s sharp-edge character. The built-in rear spoiler, wider and sportier rear bumper with a curved lip running all across the bottom length and the chrome garnish on the license plate add a touch of class to the rear design.

The premium dual-tone beige interiors with wood paneling add to its lavish style. The futuristic instrument cluster has three large innovative meters with brushed aluminium surround effect and amber lighting. The New City comes equipped with a powerful air-conditioning system, whose advanced compressor along with under-seat ducts for rear passengers help in even cooling/ heating. City GXi, the top-end model also comes equipped with a high grade Alpine stereo. Several petite features like chrome inner door handles, glass holder with wood finish, woody gearshift console, etc. add to the interiors’ ambience.

The New City comes with 14inches tubeless tyres fitted with newly designed wheel caps having a chrome three-dimensional ‘H’ mark in the center.
The New City runs on Honda’s intelligent Dual and Sequential Ignition (i-DSI) engine, the second i-series engine by Honda after i-VTEC (used in new Honda Accord and CR-V). the i-DSI engine employs compact combustion chambers and dual spark plug system for optimum combustion efficiency. Other refinements include world-class friction reduction technology, rear-port exhaust system and an oblique-feed catalytic converter.

The car also comes with an Electric Power Steering (EPS), for the first time. The change from a rod type to a wire type gear operating system makes gear shift smoother. Moreover, the clutch uses hydraulic pressure to reduce the force needed during operation resulting in fatigue free driving experience.

City CVT, the automatic transmission variant of the new City, uses the unique Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) system. The City is the first car in its segment to use the CVT system, which ensures high-quality driving experience, unlike conventional automatic vehicles. The operation of a CVT does not involve any individual gear ratios, thus eliminating shift shock and lapses as ratios change. The CVT computer continuously monitors throttle opening and duration and automatically changes driving mode for optimum control.

The unique i-DSI engine and CVT technology help deliver an unparalleled fuel-efficiency, almost 40% higher (under test conditions) than that of the existing models in the segment.
The New City has been acknowledged for its impressive crash test results, which awarded 5 stars for its driver’s seat and 6 stars for passenger seats (NCAP) Japan.

The advanced impact absorbing body design of the new City offers enhanced safety for front as well as rear passengers. The space under the front seats, which is the safest area in a vehicle, is further protected by rigid cross frames. Arch shaped front side frames significantly improve absorption of front collision impact. For reduced side impact, a floor cross member is located directly beneath the center pillar, which helps in collision impact being absorbed by the floor. The car also comes with several pedestrian safety measures like impact absorbing wiper pivots, impact absorbing bonnet, collapsible bonnet hinge and impact absorbing fender.
The New City’s unparalleled spaciousness clubbed with breakthrough functionality and progressive styling virtually redefine the standards of sedans in India.

The New City offers very comfortable Ingress (getting-in) and Egress (getting-out) resulting from wide doors, higher seating position and low car floor. The seating comfort of the car matches the standards till now offered only by luxury cars. The New City also offers enhanced passenger comfort through increased legroom and knee room. The exceptionally large trunk (490 liters) is bigger than that of most of the D-segment sedans and has been facilitated by the shifting of the fuel tank from under the driver’s seat.
The cabin forward design contributes to wider front visibility. Driver seat height adjuster, tilt adjustable steering wheel with speed-sensitive Electronic Power Steering, adjustable headlamp beam height and power-adjustable side rear view mirrors add to the driver’s and passenger’s comfort and convenience. Other thoughtful features include dual glove box, storage space under the rear seats, front storage space with retractable glass holder partition, etc. The space liberated as a result of shifting the fuel-tank has been utilized innovatively to create a comfortable footrest for the rear passengers.

The New City also boasts of innovative and highly advanced NVH control mechanisms, like the hood insulator, sound absorption roof lining, fender noise insulation barrier and silencing pillar garnish, resulting in ultra quiet interiors, found only in high-end luxury sedans.
