At Honda we are committed to using the technology to enhance Safety for all road users, an approach we call "Safety for everyone" As a manufacturer of vehicles - Honda is committed to making products that provide high levels of safety, not only for drivers and passengers but also for pedestrians. We are committed to promoting safer driving and to making mobility safer for everyone We established the world's first ?indoor omni-directional crash test safety facility? in 2000. At our crash safety research facility, we study vehicle-to-vehicle collisions, the reduction of pedestrian injuries, and collisions with motorcycles. We conducted extensive research in this safety facility focused on vehicle-to-vehicle compatibility. This research helped lead to the development of Honda?s new ACE body. This design minimizes the consequences of a mismatch between vehicles of different size. ACE reduces the chance for misalignment with other vehicles ? distributes loads over a wider area ? and absorbs collision energy with greater efficiency. Another area where Honda has taken steps to address a real world safety issue ? namely pedestrian safety technology. Honda?s research into the reduction of pedestrian injuries began with simulations of the impact when a pedestrian strikes the vehicle. Toward this end, in 1998, Honda developed the world's first pedestrian dummy based on research into human anatomy. Based on simulations carried on second-generation pedestrian dummy we were able to redesign the wiper pivots, the hood hinge and other areas in the cars. |
